Helpers

Thank you to our helpers last week:

Mrs. Lambright

Tonie-Lala

Mrs. Cosse

Mrs. LeMaster

Mrs. Leury

(Sorry if I forgot anybody).

Thank you for all your help in the classroom and with our reading program.

We appreciate all you do for us.

Field Trip

Our first field trip is Friday to Bonnie Springs. We will be gone most of the day. We are leaving at 9:15. We are planning to be back around 1:30.

All forms and money were due Friday. Students and chaperones needed to pay on this field trip. The cost of the field trip is based on the places we visit. Bonnie Springs charges for both students and chaperones that attend. Don’t forget to wear green uniform tops and jeans are okay on this trip. Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch. Also, all car/booster seats need to be brought in the morning for the chaperones cars.

Harvest Festival

Thank you to those who signed up to help work the booth.

We still need more help…The sign up sheet is outside our room. We need your help to set up in the morning, work the booth, and take down in the evening. Please see the Room Moms, Tonya Clutts or Milla Lambright for any questions. Thank you!

I did Running Record with each child last week. It tests their reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension. Today, your child is receiving a leveled book according to their independent reading level. It is in their reading bag with their reading log and a letter of explanation. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOUR CHILD READ THEIR BOOK AND RETURN IT ON A DAILY BASIS, if not daily every other day or 2. They will be graded on the amount of books they read. Please see the letter for more details and if you have any questions please see me.

Thank you very much to our first set of parent helpers last week:

Claudia Yang

Shelby Ramsey

Tonya Clutts

Jennifer Luery

Toni (Lala)

With our new reading program, it is very important that we have at least one parent a day to listen to children read.

Math Assessments

We will be having our first math assessments on Wednesdays. We will have a Fact Assessment and a Written Assessment. Our Fact Assessments are normally a 2 minute test. They will have 2 minutes to do the test and then after 2 minutes they will finish the rest of their problems with a crayon. The problems completed with pencil are worth 4 points and the ones completed with crayons will be marked down 2 points. Any incorrect problem is 4 points off. I will time them this week to get them familiar with the process of working in pencil and then crayon, but they will not be penalized for not completing the test within 2 minutes. I will begin this process on the next test. You can help your child to improve their speed by practicing their homework pages in 2 minutes and working on flash cards.

Spelling Words

This week I will also start marking words wrong for not capitalizing names. We have learned and practiced this material in Language Arts for Grammar, so the children are familiar with the material.

Many children also need to work on writing their spelling words in lower case and making their letters correctly and not backwards. Beginning second quarter, end of October, I will mark capitals (that don’t need to be in a word) and incorrect letters wrong in a word.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above material please see me.
